Writing is hard work. A clear sentence is no accident. Very few sentences come out right the first time, or even the third time. Remember this in moments of despair. If you find that writing is hard, it’s because it is hard. It’s one of the hardest things that people do.

my favourite part of shakespeare plays is the person at the end that is like “see how these people fucked everything up. don’t do this. look at this fuckery. look at it. fuck this. fuck everything.”

Question with 1 note

Anonymous asked: Did les mis make you cry?

Is this a real question?

Hell yes! I have seen it live on stage twice! I cried both times! And I can pinpoint it down to the exact note each time. Oh god Bring Him Home don’t get me started. And then in the finale with the “Yes, Cosette/Forbid me now to die./I’ll obey/I will try.” fUCK

The movie was another story. They filmed it so that all the singing was live on camera which kind of backfired. They went overboard with emotion and there wasn’t much of a balance between signing and acting. Granted, they’re actors, but when you have someone as esteemed as Hugh Motherfucking Jackson unable to make me bat an eye at a single one of his songs, or if Anne Hathaway (and I’m in the minority here, I know) gets so emotional crying through her trademark song you can’t understand what she’s saying, you’ve got to rerecord your sound. There should be a mix between emotion and signing. Because if you got the emotion, but you’re not hitting the right notes, it doesn’t have the same effect.

But when you do, that’s where the magic lies. And that, my dear nonnie, is why Les Mis made me cry.
